The Nomination Process The Nomination Process Nominations for the 2011 HM Awards for Hotel & Accommodation Excellence are open to people who work in the hotel industry in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

The nominations are available online where the relevant details must be completed.

For PROPERTY and DEPARTMENTAL categories: The name and address must be completed, while up to 500 words may be submitted (outlining major achievements over the last 12 months and why you believe the property should win its specific category).
Note: A number of categories have been slightly altered in 2011, with the most significant being the former 3.5-star to 5-star categories. These have been replaced with Budget Accommodation, Economy Hotel, Midscale Hotel, Upscale Hotel, Upper-upscale Hotel and Luxury Hotel. So, please take care in ensuring the nominated property is entered into the correct category. Australian Lodge of the Year has also been added, recognising this growing segment of the market.

For PEOPLE categories: The name and address must be completed, while up to 500 words may be submitted (outlining major achievements over the last 12 months and why you believe the individual should win the specific category).

For RISING STAR of Year: This new award will recognise an associate under the age of 30 who has achieved significant milestones in the hotel industry. The name and address must be completed, while up to 500 words may be submitted (outlining major achievements over the last 12 months and why you believe a rising star should win the specific category).

For MAJOR awards: The name and address must be completed, while up to 500 words may be submitted (outlining major achievements over the last 12 months and why you believe the individual or property should win the specific category).
Note: Supplier, Hotel Brand, Accommodation Chain, Hotel of the Year, HM magazine New Zealand Hotelier, HM magazine Australian Hotelier of the Year and HM magazine Asia-Pacific Hotelier of the Year will be decided on by Regional CEOs (as per the judging process in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010).

The Judging Process

Once the nominations are closed, the judging panel – made up of over 50 travel writers, industry experts and key clients – will then decide the finalists and the winners. Written submissions for each category will be taken into consideration and voting is based on a 3-2-1 system. Judging decisions will remain anonymous. Results are then audited by Ernst & Young.
